i am stuck on an island in southern florida. soutern flordia in august is hot hot. i have a wrong idea that when you are hotter, your neurochemistry flows faster (like oil as you heat it in a pan) but thinner. this means that thoughts come fast, but they also go fast; they are thin and vapid. among the realizations that have come to me in this heat: when i eat a pickle, i eat “a pickle”, whether it is whole, halved or quartered; i eat one in whatever portion it is served to me. i have been eating alot of pickles, which are very expensive on this island. pickles on the island are halved. i have taken to quartering them. each time i eat a pre-sliced quarter of a pickle, i feel like i have eaten “a pickle”. this means that a jar of pickle lasts me twice as long, saving me $6.42. i think it is related to my idea that skipping a step (as in a stair step) saves energy, and that if you step only on every other stair, that you will save half the work of having climbed the stairs, b/c you will have climbed only half as many. this is wrong, but it works. right now, several obviously beautiful parrotfishes are swimming beneath me. they remind me of surfstyle windbreakers. the other idea is that apparent temperature, which we imagine can only go up and down, can actually go sideways in numerous directions based on the barometric pressure and the humidity. temperature perception is like color perception in that it can not be linearly quantified. i only feel ok, not great.
